What is Active TV technology?

Before, you could watch it on your PC. Now, you can watch it on your TV.

Instead of being tied to satellite or cable TV broadcast schedules, Active TV lets you watch your favorite content when you want to.

Active TV merges your PC with your TV, and expands your Internet viewing beyond the PC, to include the TV. You can bring TV web channels to your living room from around the world via the Internet. Your TV infrared remote control lets you operate everything the easy way – no need for a mouse or keyboard.

See something that interests you on your PC? Now enjoy it with your friends on your TV. You can easily create, launch, and share your own TV website with your wedding, birthday party, holiday, children’s sports photos and videos – all seamlessly assembled into an Internet-accessed TV-web channel.

Active TV also expands TV viewing choices for both content producers and consumer. Content producers can now reach viewers directly without first going through major studios and consumers can now get beyond limited choice TV from their provider by accessing Internet-based TV content.

Using the latest desktop or notebook PCs powered by AMD multi-core processors, you can now distribute Internet video to multiple TVs around your home. Surf and watch Web videos without sacrificing performance.

All those fun and interesting things you find on the Web? Imagine viewing them on your big-screen TV.
Active TV technology makes it easy to build and distribute TV-web channels. You can access favorites from popular video sharing web sites as a TV-web channel and stream it to the TV for the whole family to enjoy. No need to deal with the heat, noise, and maintenance required to keep a PC attached to your TV.

Make your TV viewing options as big as the Internet
Using tools and formats long familiar to creators of PC-web content, such as Flash video and HTML, it is now possible for anyone to create and distribute a TV-web channel. And with AMD64 dual-core technology, an AMD LIVE! PC can be used to format and deliver these TV-web channels, thereby expanding options for the TV viewer and providing access to greater choice and interactivity on the TV.

All AMD Athlon™ dual-core based PCs are Active TV Technology ready. To bring TV web channels to your living room, look for Active TV technology featured in game consoles, digital media adapters, networked set-top boxes, and TVs.

Active TV requires a PC using either Microsoft® Windows® XP or Microsoft® Vista®, and a simple one-time installation of Active TV software to format and distribute TV-web channels to Active TV-enabled TV devices. A wired or wireless 802.11 home network is required to connect each TV and STB to the networked PC. Broadband service to the home is also needed to deliver PC-web content to the PC, and TV-web channels to Active TV enabled TV devices.

Active TV technology-enabled consoles, digital media adapters, networked set-top boxes, and TVs will be available in retail in Europe and the US in 2007.
